Today's snippet day!

The next step snippet!

After spending the week with my lovely bride I am back.

Writing another 954 plus words to meet the challenge my friend Cedar Sanderson has thrown out there on Face Book. Thank you, Cedar!

So here is the next rough snippet...

Joseph slowly realized he was still alive when Melinda opened up the shades allowing the morning sun to strafe his eyelids like laser beams. The pain welling up from his soul to his head reminded him that pure grain alcohol was best when not consumed in straight, ice cold, shots. He strained to crack open an eyeball through the pounding in his brain. He was glad he did. She was nude from head to toe, her raven black hair up in a ponytail, and she had artwork in greens and blues down her neck and back. It ended with an iridescent flourish over each beautifully formed hip and buttock. Damn she was sexy! Joe smiled through the hangover and slowly sat up in the king sized bed. They had joined Alex and Sue in bed for a an actual, real life, hot as hell orgy after their drunken spree on 'Mud Hollow Hills' outside town. This had been one awesome party, though most of it was fuzzy. He swore he remembered the girls screaming his name...Joe grinned a wicked grin and sat up straighter.

“Mornin', Studmuffin!” Melinda said as she put a hot cup of coffee into Joe's hands. “Last night was delicious, thank you. You want some breakfast? I have bacon and eggs on the stove?”

“Sure thing! I'm practically starved!” Joe just still couldn't believe his luck.

“Oh, Dammit! My biscuits!” Melinda spun on her heels and ran off down the hall, her jiggling assets giving Joe a good show as she raced to save her pride in baking from burning.

Joe laughed loudly as she slipped a little rounding the corner to the kitchen but used the wall to stop herself from falling. “Whoops! Careful not to bruise anything important. I'd liked to repeat last night's partying sometime soon.”

“Saved them!” came the reply from the kitchen. Melinda actually liked baking and cooking meals. She'd done it most of her life in Brazil. A twinge in her heart, for just a second, as she realized she was enjoying this faux domestication act. Accept maybe she wanted it to be real. Joe really showed his amazement every time he looked at her. Her own stomach tightened up when she looked at him and his simple love for her. His heart beat was true, that much she figured out.

The tattoos briefly burned for a few seconds, warning her that the plan was to be followed at all costs. Melinda shook her head and loaded the fresh baked goodness into a flour sack towel lined bowel. The sausage gravy was hot on the stove as she prepared the food. At least she could enjoy pleasing the man as he had pleased her all night. 'The man was a beast in bed!'

Joe polished off the bacon and another mug of hot coffee. Melinda had a biscuit with gravy, some bacon, and hot tea. They had yet to get dressed, though both had taken a shower together. Melinda still couldn't handle the fact Joe was so insatiable even after the long night they'd had. She grinned. The marks again reminded her she needed to check on her brood. She took up the dishes and placed them in the sink. Grabbing her clothes, she proceeded to dress, turned to Joe and kissed him hard on the mouth. “Be back in an hour, Baby. Don't go anywhere. We ain't finished yet.” Joe's jaw dropped and turned to a big smile as he nodded his head enthusiastically.

Cedar looked though the binoculars at the storage site. Typical paint patterns and automated entrances. Cameras, high fence with barbed...no...concertina wire, no dogs or security guards she could gather. “And what makes you think this is the place they've gone to ground?” She stated impatiently with a sigh.

Ralph held up a feather. “This.”

Cedar looked at the obviously small feather matching the plumage of the 'extinct, but now not extinct' birds. “One feather?” She looked at Ralph knowingly, crossing her arms and tapping her foot, as he reached into his pack and pulled out a gallon bag full of similar feathers. “Thought so.”

“So, care to know how I found...” Torg started to say when Ralph cleared his throat. “Okay, mate, you helped somewhat.”

“We found the feathers a few kilometers west of that last incident. Along with a trail leading in this direction. They struck too close to home and overfed themselves.” Ralph pointed at the feathers. “They seem to preen themselves after a big feeding.”

“They also shit a ton. That was absolutely disgusting.” Torg made a grimace and shook his head.

“Wasn't that bad.” Ralph scolded him.

“You didn't have to gather that mess into test tubes. That shit'll react to human hemoglobin tests like fire on petrol!” He raised a scalded finger to prove his point.

“Gasoline on a fire.”

“Whatteva!” Torg snorted.

“Good work, boys. We also get a hefty bonus on this one, by the way.” Cedar smiled and opened the secure flip phone and hit the quick dial. The other end was answered promptly and she gave her codes. “This is Chief Sandusky. Call Central Bureau.” Cedar filled in the details and the address. The dispatcher acknowledge and she hung up. “Teams will be here in an hour. We're to keep an eye on target and make sure nothing goes in or out.” She turned and walked back to the car. “Behave for a little while longer, Okay?” The door closed, she started the engine and pulled away leaving a small dust cloud on the gravel back country road. Her car faded from sight as Torg and Ralph sat down upon the pickup's tailgate.
